MyFitnessPal v MyMacros+
Trying to lose weight or maintaining a new lifestyle takes work and consistency. Unfortunately, it can be very exhausting. You might ask yourself if you’ll ever get a break. Well, you can catch a break, but you can never fully stop. Thankfully, you can make it easier on yourself by using a nutrition tracking app! Using a nutrition app is one of the easiest ways to streamline all the day to day tasks required to stay on top of your fitness goals.
You may also be asking yourself, “Which app is best one for me?” Well, there are a wide number of fitness apps from calorie counters to weight loss programs available, and each of them will meet different needs. I myself have tried quite a few fitness apps and have recently found two that are making it hard to choose from. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the differences between MyFitnessPal and MyMacros+. We’ll look at some similarities and differences of the apps as well as decide which one is the best for you.
MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal can be customized for literally anyone. It works as a digital diary to help you keep track of your calorie intake and exercise regimen. Gaining popularity as one of the most popular calorie counting apps available, MyFitnesPal comes with two subscription options and a load of useful features. There is a free offer that allows you to track your calorie intake and calories burned as well as log your food and drink intake daily. They have a large food database including packaged foods that can be found using the search option available in multiple languages.
If you choose the premium version, you can pay $9.99 per month or take the leap for a one-year subscription at $49.99. When you sign up for the premium version of MyFitnessPal, you unlock a customizable calorie calendar that allows you to set daily goals and calorie goals per meal. There is also a recipe creator to break down the calories to the tee with every ingredient. You simply adjust the portions and ingredients and the app makes it available to you. You can even make your recipes public!
With the MyFitnessPal app, you also gain access to a community of members that you can to turn to for advice and support. The app itself allows you to track your calories from literally anywhere and gives you daily feedback on healthy habits. You can also see where you’ll be in the future if you were to stay on your current program.
Using MyFitnessPal can produce healthy results. It allows you to lose weight safely and eliminates cheating or mistakes that can easily be made by logging manually. It should be noted though that this app is not a weight loss program and should be used as a tool to complement your weight loss journey. If you were to only count calories to try and lose weight, you would not have much luck in the long run.
MyMacros+
MyMacros+ is another popular calorie tracking app that was designed by a former bodybuilder. This easy to use app is designed to help track your diet, weight and calories. Available for download, MyMacros+ doesn’t offer a free version, but it is only about the price of your favorite fancy coffee.
With one flat price, MyMacros+ allows you to log your macros unlike MyFitnessPal where you have to pay the high price tag to gain access to macros tracking. However, if macro tracking isn’t your thing, then either app will be suitable for you. I liked the large database MyMacros+ has, but MyFitnessPal definitely has more options and unknown foods, and as a traveler, this makes quite a difference. Both apps allow you to search for food, scan barcodes and customize your food. MyMacros+ has better options for customizing portions, but MyFitnessPal has preset portion sizes to choose from. However, you can simply input those preset portions from MyFitnessPal on MyMacros+.
Another bonus is that MyMacros+ will give you a breakdown of each individual meal rather than the day’s total. This easier to use app allows you to set goals and targets, create lists for “favorite, recent and frequent” uses. All of your information is stored in the app itself making it available offline, whereas MyFitnessPal needs to update to the website and is not always available offline.
How Did I Choose?
I like that MyMacros+ offers many of the same features as the premium version of MyFitnessPal for a fraction of the cost. MyFitnessPal free is basic but does everything you need it to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The premium version gives you access to more tools that’ll aid in your weight loss journey. Some examples are recipes and workout videos, but is it worth the price when MyMacros+ offers most of the same features and tools?
Well, MyMacros+ is a great app and you have access to many features for cheaper, and this includes a large food database, goal tracking, portion customization and even macro breakdowns. Still, MyFitnessPal has still won me over because for double the price, you get more than double the food database, macros tracking, and my favorite feature; the daily feedback. The daily feedback shows you how you can make improvements to your current plan as well as show you where you will be if you continue on your current track. It also sends you alerts if you are displaying unhealthy habits.
It was a hard choice considering MyMacros+ cheaper price tag, but MyFitnessPal just has a few extra details that really steal the show. Especially as a traveler, the larger food database was a huge selling point.
Achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes a lot of work. Using a fitness app like MyFitnessPal or MyMacros+ is meant to make those menial yet important tasks easier to do regularly. It is your job to make sure you’re eating the right combination of foods and getting the right exercise for your body. Whether you choose to use either one of these apps or find another, they can be used as genius tools to help you get to where you want to be – happy and healthy.
