As soon as MyFitnessPal made the announcement that they were moving the barcode scanning feature to a premium-only feature in late 2022, we knew there was going to be a LOT of people leaving the platform and looking for a new calorie tracker. A ton of you have already switched and today we are looking at a great alternative… Lose It!

Lose It! Is not a new app. It has been around for nearly 15 years already. The company states that “many of the Lose It! Features are available for free, supporting the company’s mindset that losing weight doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive”.

Like many calorie tracking apps, Lose It! Is built on what’s called a freemium platform – meaning there is a free version with basic functionality and a paid version with advanced features. The premium membership comes in at $39.99 per year

  1. Personalized weight loss plan: This feature gives you nutrition recommendations based off your unique body composition and activity levels. When you first download the app, expect to spend a solid 5-10 minutes answering various questions to get set up.
  2. Intuitive logging: this feature just refers to the ease of use to track a meal using the database. We would have to agree that the ease-of-use for Lose It! Is great.
  3. Smart camera: this feature allows you to scan barcodes to make tracking easier and is a FREE feature unlike MyFitnessPal.
  4. Sync health app & track exercise: this feature allows you to connect Apple Health or Google Fit for easy exercise tracking. The app also allows you to track directly within the app too.
  5. Community support: with Lose It! You can add your friends and join groups to keep each other accountable.

 

Premium only features:

  1. Sync devices: the free feature allows you to connect Apple Health or Google Fit, but this premium feature allows the Lose It! App to connect directly with your fitness tracker or scale for ease of use.
  2. Advanced tracking: this feature allows you more control over your tracking by allowing you to track macronutrients, water intake, blood pressure, measurements and more.
  3. Meal & exercise planning: Here you can easily customize your meal sections to meet your specific dietary needs and pre-log your food and exercise plans.
  4. Patterns and celebrations: this is a cool tool that is available in the premium version that gives you additional insights into your eating habits, form logging streaks and celebrating your wins.

 

The verdict? We love Lose It! As a tool to track your nutrition and crush your goals. The free version is perfectly sufficient to reach your goals and we think the premium version is a BARGAIN at only $39.99 per year to get access to the additional features.
